How to get started with Dungeons and Dragons at Fire and Dice Games
Fire and Dice Games run a weekly Dungeons and Dragons session which is perfect for players of all experience levels. During these events we have several Dungeons Masters running individual tables but all following the same story so no table has more than 8 players at a time. These sessions are also drop in, drop out so it doesn’t matter if you miss a week!
Wednesdays at 6:30pm -10pm
First Session free (£2 afterwards)
Due to the nature of the sessions we recommend participants being 16 or over but younger players are welcome with a parent or guardian.
To play all you will need is a character, a pencil and some dice. We have pre-made character sheets available in store for new players or if you want to build your own you can download a blank character sheet here: Character Sheet – Print Version
Download the rules here: DnD_BasicRules_2018
The Basic Rules document is divided into four parts.
Creating a character, providing the rules and guidance you need to make the character you’ll play in the game. It includes information on the various races, classes, backgrounds, equipment, and other customization options that you can choose from. Many of the rules in part 1 rely on material in parts 2 and 3.
Details the rules of how to play the game, beyond the basics described in this introduction. That part covers the kinds of die rolls you make to determine success or failure at the tasks your character attempts, and describes the three broad categories of activity in the game: exploration, interaction, and combat.
All about magic. It covers the nature of magic in the worlds of D&D, the rules for spellcasting, and a selection of typical spells available to magic-using characters (and monsters) in the game.
Tools for Dungeon Masters. It includes information and stat blocks for monsters, advice for building combat encounters, and magic items.
Best place to start with Dungeons and Dragons is with a Starter Set or an Essentials Kit.
Both of these products will provide you with an adventure to work through, premade character sheets, dice and all rules you will need.
The next steps after a starter set or essentials kit is to purchase a Player’s Handbook and perhaps treat yourself to more dice (We recommend Oakie Doakie Dice).
